Twin Sisters Turn 100 + ECD To Award Website Design Services

Welcome to the Laurel Daily! Here you will find fun events going on this week, including twin sisters who lived for a century and counting, website design services for Main Street businesses, and new information about where you can go for free COVID-19 vaccinations and testing.

Weather Report:

Today, the weather will be hot and humid with clouds, sunshine and a high of 92 degrees. A thunderstorm will happen in the afternoon.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

1. Twin sisters who are residents of Bowie, turned 100 in March 2021. They were celebrated with a drive-by birthday party. Elaine Foster and Evelyn Lowe, both lifelong residents of Prince George’s County, received gift certificates to their favorite restaurant, bouquets of flowers, balloons and gift baskets from well-wishers. They both attributed their advanced age and health to consistently taking care of themselves and by also getting yearly check-ups from their doctors. (Newsbreak)

2. The City of Laurel’s Department of Economic and Community Development will administer the Main Street Marketing Technical Assistance Program. This program will award services for website design or social media management through a partnership with locally owned business My Content Co. Only businesses on Main Street area are eligible. Mayor Craig A. Moe encourages businesses in the Main Street District to take advantage of this new opportunity. Applications are now being accepted. The deadline to submit your application is June 21 at 9:00 a.m. (City of Laurel)

3. Maryland Department of Health will soon start closing the state’s mass vaccination sites because more than 70% of Marylanders over the age of 12 have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Mayor Craig A. Moe announced that to fill that void, Chief Health Officer Dr. Uzochukwu Unegbu, will begin to offer free COVID-19 testing and vaccines to Laurel residents from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. through June 30. His office is located next to Laurel Medical Center. To schedule your appointment for either the PCR testing or the COVID-19 vaccine, call 301-604-8000 and use option 2. (City of Laurel)
