    Personal computer group seeks those who need the technology

    SEQUIM — Members of the Sequim PC Users Group have an abundance of refurbished desktop computers and are looking for people who need them. “It’s a good position to be in — we just need people to give them to,” said Tom LaMure, club president emeritus. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, club members have helped social services groups support individuals and families by providing computers to work and/or attend school from home. Now, some of those agencies have received funding to purchase new computers, laptops and/or tablets. However, donated computers continue to come into the club. As of this week, the

    DARPA Seeks to Improve Computer Vision in ‘Third Wave’ of AI Research

    The military’s primary advanced research shop wants to be a leader in the “third wave” of artificial intelligence and is looking at new methods of visually tracking objects using significantly less power while producing results that are 10-times more accurate. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, has been instrumental in many of the most important breakthroughs in modern technology—from the first computer networks to early AI research. “DARPA-funded R&D enabled some of the first successes in AI, such as expert systems and search, and more recently has advanced machine learning algorithms and hardware,” according to a notice for

    Europe seeks semiconductor boost, first quantum computer – Technology

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Union wants to produce a fifth of the global output of cutting-edge semiconductors at the end of this decade and make its first quantum computer in five years, as part of efforts to cut its dependence on non-European technologies.     Law360 (February 5, 2021, 5:40 PM EST) — The Fifth Circuit has reinstated an appeal filed by an online marketing company that was hit with a $80,000 jury verdict for allegedly holding Houston-based law firm The Gonzalez Law Group PLLC’s website “hostage” in return for cash amid a contract dispute. The appellate court granted Internet Lava LLC’s motion to reinstate the appeal Thursday after the  marketing firm complained that the appeal was prematurely dismissed for want of prosecution.
